Refreshing the Taste
Challenge 

This small microbrewery, located in the resort town of Mammoth Lakes, California, found it difficult to gain market share in the competitive beverage industry. Mammoth Brewing Company (MBC) enjoyed strong local sales, but under new ownership the brewery was ready to distribrute their beers regionally. Marketing was to play a key role.

Solution 

To compete on the shelves, a new identity was developed along with labels and packaging that supported the new MBC brand. Originally, four different styles of beer were produced—now there were nine—offered in both 12 and 22 ounce bottles as well as a new product line in aluminium cans. Each “flavor” needed a unique name and an identifiable color palette. A company icon was also needed—something that fit the natural environment where the beer is produced. The Mammoth Brewing Company Bear was born and quickly became a popular mascot. To further support the brand and increase sales, several key elements were produced: collateral materials; a variety of merchandise and promotional items (t-shirts, hats, glassware, stickers); promotional vehicle wraps; and a print, radio and television advertisting campaign.
